Person dies in Nelson crash

One person has died following a crash on the Whakatu Expressway in Nelson this morning.

Police say emergency services were called to Whakatu Drive, in Stoke, about 1.30am.

The person was found dead at the scene.

Part of State Highway 6 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

"Investigations in the incident remain ongoing," police said.

"Motorists are thanked for their patience while emergency services staff responded."
