Emergency services are tackling a blaze which broke out near Cape Reinga this afternoon.

Three fire trucks and four helicopters are at the scene at Cape Maria van Diemen, a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson told 1News.

The vegetation fire measures around 200m by 100m.

It's unknown if the fire is contained at this stage.
