Person dies while kayaking in Haast

One person has died while kayaking in Haast this afternoon.

The person had been kayaking with a group on the river near Jackson Bay/Okahu.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 2pm, police say.

Police will make inquiries on behalf of the coroner.
