Man fatally hit by truck while directing traffic on closed SH23

A man has died after being hit by a truck while directing traffic on State Highway 23.

It happened just before 8am today about halfway between Raglan and Whatawhata, near the intersection with Cogswell Rd, police said.

The highway was already closed due to severe weather events and the truck that hit and killed him was working nearby.

Police said support is being given to workers who were at the site and the circumstances of the crash are under investigation.
