A dog returning home by itself alerted family members of a Christchurch man who was later found with critical stab wounds that something was wrong.
Police say the man was found critically injured about 6.20am today in Bexley Park at the Pages Rd entrance.
"The victim was stabbed multiple times and discovered by members of his family," Detective Inspector Nicola Reeves said in a statement this afternoon.
“The man was walking his dog when he was attacked."
Police say the dog returned home by itself, which alerted the victim’s family something was wrong.
“Family members have gone out to look for him and have found him injured in the park.”
The dog was not harmed in the attack and officers are currently searching for the offender.
Police have described the Bexley Park area as relatively busy and say it is possible someone witnessed the incident or captured it on dashcam.
