Eight people are injured, including two critically, following a crash in Waikato this morning.

The crash involved a single van.

It happened shortly before 6am on State Highway 3 at Hangatiki, near Te Kuiti.

Of the eight people injured, two are critical, two have serious injuries and four have moderate injures.

The highway is closed while emergency services respond and a diversion is in place.
