They say you should never meet your heroes but for young rugby fan Charley-Jane Goodin, Saturday's experience at Eden Park was a life-changer.

Keen to get an autograph after fulltime, seven-year-old Charley-Jane offered to trade her own boot for Roger Tuivasa-Sheck's.

“He signed his then I gave him one of my boots and he said, 'you have to sign it'," Charley-Jane told 1News.

Charley-Jane believed she got the better end of the deal and mum Robyn agreed.

"She kind of took it out on her own and talked to him, we just stood behind and she did all the talking,” mum said.

Her dad Anton says it's a moment the aspiring Black Fern will never forget as she chases her own rugby dreams like Tuivasa-Sheck has this year.

"It's crazy what that 20 seconds has done to her," he said.

"She absolutely loves it, when she gets out on that field she's a completely different kid,” Robyn added.

“She does say it's about having fun but she gets very competitive."

Not only is Charley-Jane competitive with ball in hand - she's formed an impressive collection of New Zealand rugby memorabilia.

In the meantime, she needs to restock in another key area of her favourite sport.

"Mum and dad have to buy me more boots!"
