A Northland family is grieving after a boy died in a freak accident while climbing a tree.
Declan Halford, 10, had been playing in the backyard of his home in Whangārei on Saturday when he fell.
His parents, Luke and Deborah, have five children, and are expecting their sixth.
A Givealittle page has since been set to help pay for the funeral costs and daily expenses.
"ACC will provide some financial support to the family, but would love to be able to take some further financial strain off the family so they can just concentrate on getting each other through this next season and spending time together," a family friend wrote.
