An earthquake has been felt by hundreds of people on the West Coast in the early hours of this morning.
GeoNet report the "moderate" quake was centred 10km north-east of Greymouth and occurred at 1.52am this morning.
It was magnitude 4.7 and at a depth of 5km.
Hundreds of people reported feeling the shaking on the GeoNet website, mostly on the West Coast and in the top of the South Island.
A scattering of people in the North Island reporting feeling the shaking as well.
The majority classed it as "moderate", "light" or "weak".
