Pedestrian dies after being hit by train in Hamilton

A pedestrian has been killed after being hit by a train in Hamilton on Thursday morning.

The incident near the Collins Road level crossing in Melville was reported to police just after 4.30am.

The area is cordoned off while the scene is examined.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
