One dead after crash near Oamaru

A person has died after a serious crash near Oamaru on Saturday night.

The single-vehicle crash happened at about 10.15pm on Thames Highway.

Police said it appeared the vehicle went off the road and hit a fence.

The passenger died at the scene, while the driver sustained serious injuries.

The serious crash unit attended.

The road is now open.
