1 person dead following crash in Canterbury

One person has died following a crash between a pedestrian and a vehicle in Canterbury early Saturday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene between Chertsey Line Rd and Pendarves Rakaia Rd in Rakaia at around 6.30am.

Motorists are being told to avoid the area as the road has been closed.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing, police said.
