TJ Perenara unaware of All Blacks' anthem pitch invader

October 31, 2021

TJ Perenara admits he was unaware a pitch invader joined the All Blacks as they sung the national anthem ahead of Sunday's win over Wales in Cardiff.

The notorious Jarvo evaded security and, wearing full All Blacks kit and a face mask, stood near Tyrel Lomax as the te reo version of the anthem started up.

Security eventually ushered him away.

Speaking after the 54-16 victory, Perenara said he was unaware at the time of what was going on.

"No, I didn't (know). I got told when I came off and was sitting on the bench,'' Perenara said.

"One of the bros was telling me that there was someone else at the end of the anthem. I actually had my eyes closed. Halfway through the Te Reo Māori, I heard the crowd going off. And I couldn't think why. Now, in hindsight, it's because they noticed that guy or something like that.''

Jarvo got onto the pitch three times during the recent England v India Test cricket series.
