While the UK might be his home, Ed Sheeran is not shy about his love of New Zealand.

The superstar singer is currently self-isolating at home with his young daughter after they both caught Covid, but before all this happened he caught up with Seven Sharp’s Carolyn Robinson.

"I love New Zealand,” he told her.

“I only live here [in the UK] because I have a connection here, my wife's from here, my parents live around the corner, so do hers, my best friends are here - if I didn't have that connection I would live in Wellington. That’s my spot, I love it there,” Sheeran said.

And there's one local gig he's particularly keen on, saying if New Zealand opens up in time for Jacinda Ardern’s wedding, he’ll be there.

“Well I've got to get into the country first, right - I'm not going to skip the queue and come and play a wedding, but if it opens up and a wedding happens, I'm there.

“She's just, I love her, I love her,” he said.

Regardless, Sheeran plans to tour New Zealand in 2023, taking what he calls his coming of age album =, which dropped on Friday, around the world.

“It's always super exciting, these songs have been secretive and not many people have heard apart from my family and friends, no superfans - so I'm pumped to see what people think of them.”

Sheeran says a lot played into the development of the album, namely, adulting.

“Getting married, having a kid, I lost a friend of mine and then I turned 30 - it was this wave of adulthood.

“Suddenly it was like here's responsibility. Here’s adulthood. Try and navigate it. And that’s what I feel like the album is reflecting.”
