Waiuku means water and clay, both of which are believed to have magical properties in the village of rich history and wonder.
It is home to many delights, including one of the most accurate weather devices in all of New Zealand, so much so that it has never been wrong.
Down the end of the main road by the jetty sits the Waiuku Weatherstone Forecasting Service and it is frighteningly accurate.
If the stone is wet, it's raining and if it's swinging then it must be windy.
"In the weather forecasting world, we call that a now cast. If you're forecasting for right now, if the decision to make is you're trying to bring the washing inside then yeah," said NIWA Forecaster Nava Fedaeff.
"I don't know how helpful it is at telling the weather of the week though."

Waiuku Lions' Barry Gibb says the service was built by one of their previous members using a volcanic blue stone taken from the original curbing of the town.
"We believe without a doubt this is the most accurate weather forecasting station, it's much better than the news."
There's a taboo that still lingers over the stone after it went missing in an incident that still sullies its power.
"It was found I think probably a year or two later over the side of the wharf, there must have been a bit of a change of the mud down there.
"Someone spotted it and said there's your stone," Waiuku Lions member Nick Herrold said.
The weatherstone is now guarded by the locals and may be for many years to come, one of Franklin District's greatest contributions to science.
