Hollywood star Taika Waititi says one of the reasons he wants New Zealanders to get the Covid-19 jab is so it's easier for him to get home.

The other, of course, is so people stay healthy.

The director spoke to the Super Shot Saturday Vaxathon, where he revealed his "selfish" reasons for encouraging people to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

"I'd like to come home. Selfishly, I'd like for as many people to get vaccinated so we can ease up on the border scenario, and maybe have a little bit more of a flow in and out of the country at some stage.

"But also it just makes sense, I want people to be safe."

Currently in Los Angeles, Waititi said despite the horrifying impact of Covid, life was getting back to normal because most people in California were vaccinated.

"I'm really urging as many people as I can to do it."
