Boxing star David Nyika is heading to the UK after being booked to fight on the Joseph Parker - Derek Chisora undercard in December.

As he may not be able to come home, Nyika is prepared to stay on until he competes at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, nine months from now.

He will be based with Parker in Northern England, at a camp arranged by none other than heavyweight megastar Tyson Fury, who's opened up his own gym and arranged accommodation.

"I'm a little bit sad to be leaving but you know this is the best step for my career," Nyika told 1News.

"To be quite honest I don't feel like I've developed too much as a boxer over the last three or four years."

The Kiwi Olympic medallist is prepared for a very long stint overseas.

That's why the prospect of rubbing shoulders with Fury is so attractive, as well as working with Parker's new trainer Andy Lee.

"And fighting on these massive shows, it's gonna be the complete package to move me forwards," Nyika said.

Nyika is prepared to be based in the UK until he shoots for a third-straight Commonwealth Games gold in Birmingham in July. Before then he can have up to four more pro fights.

"More opportunities over in the UK will mean better development and making a little bit of pocket money as well," he said.
