Passengers helped subdue an intoxicated and aggressive man on board a flight from Darwin to Adelaide on Sunday.

Video from the flight shows a maskless man arguing with federal police who were waiting for him at Adelaide Airport after being called by crew.

A person is heard yelling "he's trying to bite", before passengers ask the officers if they "need a hand?".

Those on board the flight then helped hold the mans leg's as the incident unfolded.

Police used a baton as the man continued to fight back.

Passenger Jamin Tripp told 9News it was a scary situation for many of the children on board, with some people crying.

"It's not very nice when you've got kids on the plane. A few people were pretty distraught and upset."

Tripp added that the man "spoke to a few of the passengers in an aggressive way and said he deserved to be off first, saying 'I'm number one in this town'".

Following his arrest, Jetstar told 9News in a statement that the man had been temporarily banned from flying with Jetstar and Qantas.

"A passenger was intoxicated, refusing to follow instructions and was being verbally abusive towards crew and other passengers," the airline said of the chaos.

The 54-year-old Mawson Lakes man has since been charged with several offences, including two counts of assaulting police.

He was released on bail and is due to appear in court later this month.
