Man threatens staff with axe in Napier store robbery

A man has been charged over the aggravated robbery of a store in Napier on Sunday afternoon.

Police were notified of the robbery on Gloucester Street, in Greenmeadows, just before 2pm on Sunday.

A man allegedly entered the store holding an axe and threatened staff before taking a quantity of cash and cigarettes. He then fled the scene.

No one was injured in the incident.

A 32-year-old man was located at an address in Paraparaumu, in Kapiti, early on Monday morning.

He is due to appear in the Porirua District Court on Monday on charges of aggravated robbery and breaching conditions.

Police are seeking information from the public as they continue to investigate the incident.

Anyone who was in the Gloucester Street area yesterday and saw anything suspicious, or has any other information, is asked to contact police on 105, quoting file number 211011/8890.
