Person who tested positive for Covid-19 in Katikati retests negative

A person who travelled from Auckland to Katikati in the Bay of Plenty, then tested positive for Covid-19, has retested negative, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has confirmed.

The region was on has alert, with more testing stations and vaccination sites set up after the person's first positive test.

Western Bay of Plenty Mayor told Breakfast it was "a real bugger" for the region, with a "nervous calm" amongst the community.

However, later on Breakfast, Ardern said the person and their family had since tested negative.

"You might recall that the result of the individual that travelled from Auckland into the Bay of Plenty, the positive we reported yesterday, that was someone we were going to retest because they had something that's called a high CT value," she said.

Katikati.

"When someone has a high CT we retest them, that has happened. Overnight I received the results that that individual has tested negative on their second test and so have their family members so that's good news to receive today."

Ardern said Cabinet would meet to make a decision on alert levels, with an announcement at 4pm on Monday.

"We will be waiting for advice from our health officials today in making the decision at Cabinet," she said.

It comes after a positive case was confirmed in the Bay of Plenty on Saturday night. (Source: Other)

The alert level decision will be broadcast on TVNZ1, 1news.co.nz and the 1News Facebook page.

The update comes after 60 new Covid-19 cases, including the Bay of Plenty case which is now no longer a case, were announced in New Zealand on Sunday.

There were 29 people reported in hospital with Covid-19 on Sunday, including seven in intensive care or a high dependency unit.
