A fully-vaccinated person has tested positive for Covid-19 in Bay of Plenty, north of Katikati.

The Ministry of Health confirmed the news on Saturday evening.

The person lives in Pukekohe in Auckland and is in the process of moving to a rural area near Katikati, north of Tauranga. They are currently in Katikati.

“The person has been permitted to cross the boundary in and out of Auckland as they are in the process of shifting house,” the Ministry of Health said.

The Ministry of Health said because the person had been crossing the boundary, they had taken part in regular surveillance testing.

“At least five tests have been taken since the beginning of September, the most recent prior test was 5 October. All five of those tests were negative.”

They were last tested on Friday in Auckland. That test has come back positive.

The person is thought to be in the early or late stage of their infection because of that test’s high CT value.

A repeat test will now be done, and further investigation is underway.

The person’s family members have been contacted. They are currently isolating and will be tested. Those results are expected on Sunday.

The person is fully vaccinated and has reported no symptoms apart from regular seasonal hay fever.

“The person is also a consistent user of the Covid-19 tracer app, which will assist with contact tracing and identifying any locations of interest,” the Ministry of Health said.

“Initial information has identified locations of interest in Katikati and Pukekohe, with details to follow.”

Locations of interest will be added to the Ministry of Health website once details are confirmed.

“The current public health assessment is that the risk appears low given the person’s vaccination status, regular test history, good use of the app and rapid contact, testing and isolation of family members.”

The Bay of Plenty is currently in Alert Level 2.
