60 new Covid-19 community cases in Delta outbreak

There are 60 new Covid-19 cases in the community on Sunday - 56 in Auckland, three in Waikato and one in the Bay of Plenty - the Ministry of Health has confirmed.

The latest figures, which includes the Katikati case announced on Saturday evening, were released by the ministry in a statement as there was no 1pm press conference in Wellington on Sunday.

The total number of cases in this Delta outbreak is now 1587.

Of Auckland's 56 new cases, 37 have known links to existing cases, including 22 being household contacts. However, 17 cases are currently being investigated to establish a connection to the outbreak.

All three new cases in Waikato are linked to the initial Hamilton East case. Interviews are continuing to find any further contacts or locations of interest

There are currently 29 cases in hospitals; 12 in Auckland's Middlemore Hospital, 11 in Auckland Hospital along with four in North Shore Hospital.

The is one case in Waikato Hospital and one case in Palmerston North Hospital.

Seven of the cases in hospital are in ICU or HDU.

There was also one case identified at the border.

The Ministry of Health currently has 2009 contacts linked to this outbreak, of which 79 per cent have been contacted and 72 per cent have received at least one test.

On Saturday, 20,421 tests for Covid-19 were processed throughout the country, including 7,071 from Auckland.

In total there has been more than 3.58 million tests for the virus processed since the pandemic began.

On vaccinations, 81,831 doses were administered on Saturday, made up of 18,301 first doses and 65,530 second doses.

More than 5.7 million doses have been administered in New Zealand to date.

There were no unexpected Covid-19 detections in wastewater samples to report on Saturday.
