'Aunties' Patsy Crow and Wiki Michalanney are among a group of wāhine helping to drive up Taranaki's Māori vaccination rate.
The Māori Women's Welfare League has partnered with the local DHB to vaccinate their community , taking over Ngāti Rāhiri's offices in Waitara.
The wāhine are vaccinating people on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 3.30pm throughout October at 38 Queen St, Waitara, which is next to New World.
Crow (Ngāti Rāhiri Hapū) said her message was: "Forget about me, forget about you, this is about us...and our community, our people, our whānau, but most importantly our tamariki."
She said the purpose of the wāhine was to make it safe and friendly for those coming to get vaccinated.
Crow said they used the term aunty as it is less fearsome than nanny, which drew laughs from Breakfast presenter John Campbell who was interviewing the pair.
Michalanney, Aotea region president of the league, agreed with Campbell it was a "wonderful thing" for people to receive their first dose at the centre.
She encouraged people to "come along and get a vaccination".
