The new MIQ system's virtual lobby had its third room release this week, with 28,406 people attempting to get a spot.
More than 6,400 people secured MIQ vouchers across 3,739 rooms.
The next release is on Tuesday, October 12, with the time to be confirmed.
The amount of people who made it into the randomised lobby queue this week, in the time period before the room release began, was 25,100. The additional people who join late go to the back of the queue.
Almost 40 per cent of those who participated in the room release were from New Zealand, head of MIQ Megan Main said.
"This does not necessarily mean these people were looking to travel overseas and come back – they could be booking on behalf of other people based overseas," she said.
The top countries by departure point was Australia with 1296, 970 from the UK, 722 from the US, 583 from India, 272 from China and 241 from Argentina.
The rooms were available in October, November, December and January - with January being the most popular month.
"I know that, again, thousands of people missed out on vouchers in today’s release," Main said.
"I want to reassure people that there are still several thousand vouchers still to be released through to the end of the year."
Main said there would be regular lobby releases - but no other details aside from the date of the next room release was provided.
"There is not an unlimited number of MIQ rooms and we do not release them all at once, and there’s a good reason for that — we’re in the middle of a global pandemic and we need to keep New Zealand safe," Main said.
The latest 1News Colmar Brunton Poll showed 51 per cent of respondents thought the Government was doing a good job at managing MIQ, 40 per cent did not and the remainder either did not know or refused to answer.
A self-isolation trial will be conducted with year with 150 fully immunised business people able to isolate at home after travelling overseas for work.
