An Auckland man has been taken into custody following a serious incident involving a firearm and damaged property overnight Wednesday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Marcia Murray from Waitemata CIB said police were called at around midnight to an address on Waima Crescent in Titirangi following a report of a family harm incident.
“Upon police arrival, the occupants came out of the address except for one male, who stated he had a firearm,” Murray said.
Noises of damage were heard inside the property, prompting police to set up a cordon around the address and evacuate neighbouring properties as precautions, he said.
“The male remained inside the address and was observed throwing items from the balcony.
“The man has then allegedly started a fire inside the house and jumped off the balcony where he was subsequently taken into custody.”
Murray said the man received some minor injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital as a precaution but is expected to face charges and appear in court on Wednesday.
Enquiries are ongoing and a scene guard remains in place Wednesday morning.
