The Kaitaia McDonald's drive-thru became a “ride-thru” for one customer who joined the queue among hundreds of others on his horse.
It was on the first day in Covid-19 Alert Level 3 in the Far North town with the fast food joint requiring traffic management services as hundreds of cars and a horse sought a Maccas fix with the line snaking down the road.
Police were also on standby.
The horse and its rider provided some light entertainment for the long wait; some likened it to the Wild West while others claimed: “Only in Kaitaia".

The rider is 18-year-old local farmer Cypress Leef, from Kaitaia.
The loyal steed was Spaghetti, whom he's had for five years and often rides through the main street.
“I did it for a bit of a laugh, the staff at the drive-thru were buzzing out and everyone was taking photos," he told 1 NEWS.
He said he got there early so only waited 10 minutes to place his order for a Mac Attack and McMuffin - nothing for the horse - but had to return twice because his brown takeaway bag kept breaking.
“Spaghetti didn’t mind, she’s pretty used to traffic," Leef said.
He said Spaghetti's a working horse and helps him on the farm with the stock.
