Two arrested as armed cops swarm Auckland's Māngere

Armed police officers, assisted by the dog squad, swarm a property in Māngere.

Two people have been arrested in the Auckland suburb of Māngere following a firearms incident earlier on Monday.

Police, including the dog squad and armed offenders squad, swarmed a property on Henwood Rd in Māngere after officers were earlier called to an unoccupied property on Don Buck Road in Massey following reports of shots at around 2pm. 

"The vehicle was observed pulling into the Henwood Road address and police have since located and recovered a firearm at the property," a police spokesperson said. 

The two offenders were found by police nearby. 

"They have swiftly been taken into custody and are assisting us with our enquiries and charges will be laid."

Cordons in place on Henwood Road intersecting with Massey Road, Aleen Street and Winthrop Way have now been lifted.

A scene examination at the property on Don Buck Road will continue through until Tuesday. 

"Police want to reassure the local community and reiterate that at this early stage, police do not believe this was a random incident," a spokesperson told 1 NEWS.
