Police have been unable to track down three men in relation to a serious assault in Auckland six months ago.
In a statement today, Detective Senior Sergeant Graham Shand said they were notified of the incident in the Lower Hobson Street area on February 11, four days after the February 7 incident.
"Through our inquiries, it appears the assault has occurred as part of a wider disorder that broke out amongst groups of intoxicated people at the time," Shand told 1 NEWS.
"Police had located CCTV footage in the area which captured part of the incident. However, despite this footage being looked into by police, we have been unable to identify those who featured in it.
"The matter has currently been filed pending any further information about the identity of those involved in this incident."
According to the Herald, a 50-year-old man who was out celebrating his birthday was hit from behind in the attack.
The man, who didn't want to be named by the publication, said he was still healing from his injuries. He broke his ankle and fibula, had a concussion and tore his bicep.
The man, who spent almost a week in hospital and underwent surgery, also said he still struggles with short-term memory loss, fatigue and is on so many painkillers it was hard to know how his injuries were healing.
Police urged anyone with information about the attack to contact police on 105, quoting the file number 210225/0909.
