Group pulled from water after waka capsizes in Taranaki

Half a dozen people have been rescued off the coast of Taranaki Sunday morning after their waka capsized. 

Coastguard Taranaki were notified of the water emergency around 8.45am, with six people in the water. 

"A swift response from Coastguard Taranaki on board Todd Energy Rescue rescued all six people out of the water and took them back to shore to waiting ambulances as some were showing signs of Hypothermia," a spokesperson said. 

One person was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital in a moderate condition according to St John Ambulance.
