Police appeal for witnesses after Napier schoolboy hit by train

A child is in critical condition after being hit by a train in Napier.

Police have issued a public appeal for information after a Napier schoolboy was hit by a train while cycling on Thursday. 

The child was rushed to hospital in a critical condition following the collision on Ellison Street in Napier South. 

Anyone who might have seen the crash take place is being urged to contact police on 105. 

“As part of our ongoing inquiries, police would like anyone who saw the collision or the immediate aftermath to get in touch,” a spokesperson said.

Napier Boys’ High School headmaster Jarred Williams confirmed to 1 NEWS on Thursday the boy is a pupil at the school. 

“Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time, and we will continue to support them in any way we can,” he said.
