The Puketāpapa Community Driving School was broken into over the weekend, taking away more than just their cars.

Kegin Hoartens, Sugkirtha Kandasamy and Yosra Alghazali have battled more than just traffic to get where they are now.

The trio are refugees from Syria and Sri Lanka and had been learning how to drive until someone took away the chance.

“I cried inside, I felt inside why are these people behaving like this?” Hoartens told Seven Sharp.

Late Saturday, a group of people broke into their Mt Albert site and took their cars for a spin; doing burnouts on the road and crashing into each other like dodgems.

The community driving school offers free lessons to migrants and refugees with a hundred having passed this year already.

“Every single success is a big success for us considering all the financial and language barriers,” manager Amie Maga said.

“So we’re proud of each learner who pass the test.”

Driving hopefuls Kegin Hoartens, Sugkirtha Kandasamy and Yosra Alghazali.

Hoartens was hoping to squeeze in more lessons before sitting their restricted license test on Wednesday.

“I was expecting more practice… but when I heard this news I was really sad.

“When I go to the job interview, the very first question - do you have your drivers license? We lose chances and opportunities so the license is very important.”

With two cars out of action as they wait to hear from their insurance company, the dreams of driving for these women is still a bus ride away.
