A person riding in the boot of a vehicle involved in a crash in Dunedin yesterday evening sustained moderate injuries.

Police said six people were in the vehicle at the time of the incident on Hillside Rd.

Multiple vehicles were involved in the 7pm collision.

St John Ambulance said it treated two patients in a moderate condition from the incident.

Both were transferred to Dunedin Hospital.

The crash comes just days after five boys died in a crash in Timaru on Saturday.

Javarney Drummond, Andrew Goodger, Niko Hill, Joseff McCarthy, and Jack Wallace were killed when the overloaded car they were in smashed into a power pole with such force the car was split in two.

The driver, a 19-year-old, was the sole survivor.
