A small cable integral to expanding the country's internet capacity has arrived at Auckland's Takapuna Beach.
It may be the size of a garden hose, but the submarine cable will increase New Zealand's internet speed by 10 per cent.
The cable is part of a 13,000-kilometre network that will stretch all the way to Los Angeles.
It will be utilised by Australia, Fiji, Kiribati and Tokelau.
