There are no new Covid-19 cases to report in the community today, according to the Ministry of Health.
However, there is one new case in managed isolation.
Today's MIQ case arrived in the country from India via the United Arab Emirates on March 23, where they tested positive on day three routine testing. They have since been transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility, the Ministry of Health said.
One historical Covid-19 case has also been reported today. They have since recovered and is not infectious.
The historical case arrived in the country from India via the UAE on February 28, where they had previously been reported as being 'under investigation'. They had previously returned negative test results while in managed isolation, before returning a positive test result with a high Ct value on a pre-employment test.
Meanwhile, two Covid-19 cases have since recovered, bringing the total number of active cases in New Zealand today to 74.
Our total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began is 2125.
Yesterday, 4846 tests for the illness were processed, bringing the total number of tests processed by laboratories to date is 1.88 million.
The Ministry of health said the investigation continues into how a cleaner at Auckland's Grand Millennium hotel, referred to as Case A, was exposed to Covid-19.
It comes after the household contact of case A returned a second negative result yesterday after initially recording a weak positive.
All close and casual contacts of Case A have returned negative initial tests.
Further test results are expected in the coming days.
Meanwhile, health officials are continuing to look into the possibility of a transmission within the Grand Mercure as part of investigations into a recent day 12 case at the facility.
Results from genome sequencing on Thursday show a link between two returnees at the Grand Mercure, with both cases confirmed as having the B.1.1.7, or UK variant of the virus.
“The returnees were staying in separate rooms on different floors. They arrived on separate flights within two days of each other. An investigation into the source of the infection is underway,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement at the time.
“At this stage, no other cases within the facility have been found linked to these two cases but investigations continue.”
As a precaution, 250 returnees who left the facility since March 10 are being asked to get tested and remain in isolation until a negative test is returned.
Contact tracing teams are contacting the returnees who have left the facility since March 10. There are 258 returnees who departed the facility between March 10 and March 25. Health officials are asking them to get tested immediately and remain at home until they have returned a negative test result.
As at 9am this morning, 233 of 258 people have been contacted and the remaining people are being followed up.
"If you are one of these people, please get in touch with Healthline," the health ministry said. So far 95 have returned negative test results, and the ministry will continue to report test results when they're made available.
The NZ Covid Tracer app now has over 2.76 million registered users.
