Nearly 100 businesses are calling for a modern slavery act to be introduced in New Zealand.

The open letter will be delivered to Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Michael Wood at a conference in Wellington today.

The letter is calling for legislation which encourages transparent supply chains to deliver ethical products to consumers.

Some of the businesses on board include The Warehouse Group, Countdown, Foodstuffs, ASB and Westpac.
