Powerful sea surges washing into Tutukaka Marina in Northland at around midday today have been captured on camera, as the area remains on tsunami alert.
The tsunami evacuation warning is in place for parts of the North Island after the Kermadec Islands was rocked by two major earthquakes this morning, the second and strongest being a magnitude 8.1 quake at a depth of 10km.
This morning Tutukaka residents fled to higher ground after the tsunami alert was issued.
