One person has died after a train crashed with a car in South Wairarapa today.

Two Fire and Emergency NZ vehicles were called to the scene alongside police and ambulance after the incident on Western Lake Road at approximately 2pm, authorities have said. 

There was one occupant in the car. The person died at the scene, police said. 

Diversions have been put in place.
