Police are investigating the sudden death of a five-month-old baby from Rotorua.
A spokesperson confirmed the infant died in Starship Hospital in Auckland over the weekend.
They did not make clear whether the death was being treated as suspicious, but did say it was "routine for Police to make inquiries on behalf of the Coroner after such a death, to assist the Coroner in making their determination on the cause of death.
"Until such time as the Coroner makes their determination, the death would be unexplained."
