Young girl drowns at Rotorua lake

A young girl has drowned at a Rotorua lake today.

Police were first called to the incident at Lake Rotokawau around 4.35pm today.

A young girl died at the lake, a police spokesperson confirmed to 1 NEWS today.

Further details, including the girl's age, were not provided.

The coroner will be investigating her death.

It's the fifth water-related death of the holiday period.
