Indira Stewart has closed out TVNZ1's last Breakfast show of the year by delivering a soulful rendition of a Christmas classic.

The newsreader sang Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, first performed by Judy Garland in 1944 film Meet Me in St Louis.

Breakfast host John Campbell called the performance an "extraordinary, wonderful treat" by a "super, super talented" newsreader.
