One person is dead with two others injured after a crash near Roxburgh this afternoon.

The two-car crash on Scotland Street (State Highway 8), Roxburgh, in Central Otago was reported just after 5pm.

Police say one person died in the crash while two others have been flown to Dunedin Hospital, one in a serious condition and a second with minor injuries.

The road remains closed with diversions in place.
