Person dies after incident at popular Bay of Plenty waterfall

A person has died after an incident at McLaren Falls, a popular waterfall in Bay of Plenty.

Police say they were called at around 12.20pm after a person "needed medical attention" while swimming.

The person was pulled from the water but died at the scene.

The death is being referred to the coroner.
