Sports bar in central Christchurch hit by fire

A central Christchurch bar has been hit by fire in the early hours of this morning.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand were called to The Fitz sports bar on Cashel Street at around 5am.

A nearby motel downward of the fire was evacuated by police.

The fire is now contained and the cause of the blaze will be investigated.
