It's National Volunteer Week, a week we celebrate the many New zealanders who give their time to their communities.

New Zealanders contribute 159 million hours of volunteer labour each year.

One of those people is a volunteer fire fighter in Awhitu on the Manukau Harbour.

Seven Sharp's Carolyn Robinson caught up with Matt Owens about his many rescues in the video above.
