Skiing is finally back on the winter calendar, with the first ski field in New Zealand reopening today.

Skiers and snowboarders at Canterbury's Mt Hutt hit the slopes this morning, to kick the season off a little later than usual.

It comes after months of uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic over when the season will start, if at all.

Mt Hutt will be open five days a week.
