Scott Dixon has taken out the IndyCar season opening event, the Genesys 300, at Texas Motor Speedway.
After qualifying second Dixon took the lead early from reigning series champion, Joesf Newgarden, and didn't relinquish it, claiming his 47th career win.
Dixon led the race for 157 laps and was rarely threatened throughout, however, the Kiwi had to fend off his own team mates, Simon Pagenaud, and Felix Rosenqvist.
Rosenqvist crashed out whilst in second place with only three laps remaining. Pagenaud swooped in to take the second place spot while Newgarden finished in third.
There were plenty of challenges Dixon had to contend with in the buildup to the race with several changes being made to the format of the event.
Covid-19 restrictions saw the entire event condensed into one day of action with practice, qualifying and the race itself all happening in quick succession.
Drivers were also required to fly in and out on charter flights all on the same day of the race with extra health testing in place.
Additionally the driving experience was different to that of any season prior, with the addition of an aeroscreen, a safety feature new to the 2020 season.
Dixon is now within five victories of tying with IndyCar legend, Mario Andretti who has the second-most all time career wins.
The win is Dixon's fourth at the Texas Motor Speedway.
