All non-essential services in Australia will be shut down in an unprecedented lockdown amid the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

From today pubs, clubs, gyms, cinemas and places of worship will all be closed.

Restaurants and cafes will be limited to takeaway services only.

It comes after large crowds gathered on beaches across Sydney over the weekend, ignoring social distancing advice.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says to expect even tighter restrictions in the future.
