A person who was taken into custody and accused of phoning in a gun threat to the Rotorua District Court has tested negative for coronavirus after previously telling police they felt unwell.

Police said two people had been taken into custody after a threat was made over the phone yesterday, prompted the lockdown of the court.

This morning, one of the two told police they felt unwell, and that they had recently been in Hong Kong.

The person has since been tested negative for Covid-19 after being placed into isolation, along with the others who were in custody at Rotorua Police Station.

The Rotorua Police Station, as well as the custody hub, will be returning to business as normal tomorrow following the negative result.

Police are currently in the process of notifying staff members who had been placed in self-isolation as a precaution.
