One of the ancient sacred statues on Easter Island has been destroyed in an accident.
A pick-up truck slammed into the stone structure, toppling it from its platform, with local media reporting the vehicle’s handbrake failed.
About 1,000 statues, known as Moai, are scattered around the island.
They were carved during the 13th and 16th centuries.
The driver's been charged with damaging a national monument with the accident prompting calls to ban vehicles near the world heritage site.
