A search is underway for a man who got into difficulty at St Clair Beach in Dunedin this afternoon.
Ambulance and police were called to the south end of the beach at about 4.30pm after reports that a male was in trouble in the water.
Police say a helicopter was involved in the search earlier but has since been stood down.
The search, assisted by Surf Lifesaving, will continue until dark and will be reassessed in the morning.
